No Limit

April 2, 2013

For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.  John 3:34 (NIV84)

The Father gives the Spirit without limit.  Wow.  We can not exhaust the power of God working in our lives.  If anything we short change what God will do in our lives because we don't understand the resource we having living inside of us.  God gives us His Spirit to enable us to do things that ONLY He can do.  We do not need to rely on our abilities-they are far to peuny for the work of God-but we need not be afraid or doubt what God can do with our lives because He gives us His Spirit without limit.

Open Minded

April 1, 2013

Then He opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures.  Luke 24:45 (NIV84)

Lord we need you to open our minds so we can understand your truths.  Give us ears to hear!  Open our hearts and minds so that our lives are transformed by your Word.  Your Word brings truth & light into our dark lives and gives us direction & hope.  Thank you Jesus for giving us your life, your Word and your Spirit.

May our lives be a reflection of your truths.

Jealousy

March 26, 2013

"The older brother became angry and refused to go in.  So his father went out and pleaded with him.  But he answered his father, 'Look!  All these years I've been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders.  Yet you never gave me a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!"  Luke 15:28-30 (NIV84)

Boy do I know this word.  This parable as beautiful as it is about restoration & a Fathers love & repentance- the older brother sure strikes a cord with me.  I have been hurt over not being recognized or appreciated when it seems that others who deserve the opposite get the pat, the celebration.  I hate this about my personality-it causes a lot of pain and is the wrong attitude.  Father change my heart...please.

**in rereading this entry in my journal today I realize that what I forgot to focus on during this passage is the grace that the Father had for both son's.  The son who was so rebellious in his actions and the son who was rebellious in his heart...both were extended the same love and grace of the Father.  God's love for His children never changes based on our actions or attitude...His love and grace are always the same..and always available....as with both sons the only action they needed to do to experience what was already available to them was repentance.

Not Forgotten by God

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies?  Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Luke 12:6 (NIV84)

Aren't those words we need to hear & believe. Don't we feel forgotten by others sometimes?  Don't our hearts hurt and long to know we are wanted, noticed, loved, remembered by someone?  Isn't that why we have funerals?  We have them to remember and think about the person who has died.  We all want our funeral to be loaded with people whom we have loved & hope they have a good memory of us.  Truth is the only One that we have a guarantee that will remember us is God and He is the One that really counts for all eternity.

Thank you Father for remembering me.

He see's our tears

When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, "Don't cry." Luke 7:13 (NIV84)

I love this.  First Jesus see's our hurt & pain.  He does not try to minimize it or critisize this woman for her grief-He is moved with compassion for this woman-His heart (God's heart) went out to her-and then He spoke to her pain.  I would venture to say that her tears had to be obediant to the command "Don't cry" just as disease had to be obediant when he commanded physical healing in someone's body.  At Jesus command her grief had to leave & her tears had to stop.  Jesus has all authority.  He see's our needs.  He is moved by compassion in our needs.  He is the authority over our needs.

Pray

"God does things he would not have done if we hadn't prayed." John Piper, James 4:2 interp.

You want something but don't get it.  You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want.  You quarrel and fight.  You do not have, because you do not ask God.  When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
James 4:2-3 (NIV84)

It is hard to wrap my mind around how prayer affects what God does in our lives.  Because I believe God is Sovereign and He will fulfill His purpose in my life-So how does my prayer affect God's plan?  I don't know.  But- I do know God is Sovereign- His will does prevail-but He also tells me to pray.  So-I just do it-knowing He works it all together to accomplish His purpose.

Share the blessing

Jesus said:  Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you. Mark 5:19  (NIV84)

God shows us mercy and His goodness all the time-He wants us to share those things with the people around us as a testimony to His faithfulness and love.  We are blessed because God loves us but also so that we will share that blessing with others.  As God pours out His love and grace in our lives lets be quick to remember to Praise Him and share that with others so that they may experience the blessing as well.

Got Faith?

He said to his diciples, "why are you so afraid?  Do you still have no faith?" Mark 4:40 (NIV84)

Wow.  Jesus questions the diciples if they had any faith at all-because of their fear.  Fear represents doubt-doubt that God cares, doubt that God understands, doubt that God see's the problem, doubt that God can do anything about the problem, doubt that God is good; no matter the outcome of the problem.  Fear=Doubt.  Doubt is the opposite of Faith-Faith says: God cares, God knows, God understands, God can, God is good no matter what.

Fight fear with faith in Who God is!  Thank Him for what He does and trust Him no matter what He does.

**disclaimer: this is what I wrote in my journal on 03/14/13 because thats what I saw in this piece of scripture....truth is truth no matter what....even when we have to preach it to ourselves over and over again.....I like Paul in Philippians 3:12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. (NIV84).  We never stop needing Christ to complete His work in our lives until we reach home.  Press on my Brothers and Sisters....Jesus has you and me covered, when we are not faithful..He remains faithful.  We just need to repent of our unfaithfulness and trust in His faithfulness.

Fill the House

So the Servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, both good and bad, and the wedding hall was filled with guests. Matthew 22:10 (NIV84)

The Father has preparred a great celebration for His Bride-He has invited many to be included-but few will accept.  We are to go out and bring in as many as will listen and receive the greatest invitation ever so that our Father's house may be filled.

Open Our Eyes

Matthew 20:34 (NIV84)

Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes.  Immediately they received their sight and followed him.

We have to have our eyes opened to truth before we are able to follow Jesus.  We need the Lord in His compassion to remove the scales from our eyes so we see Him for Who He is and we see ourselves for who we are.  We are in desperate need of His forgiveness and grace and His righteousness to cover our sin, and then when see His glory-We will follow Him.

Lord give us sight.

True Value

Matthew 13:44 (NIV84)

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field.  When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

As we are filled by God's Spirit-we begin to understand more and more about the value of God's kingdom-and everything will become less important as His kingdom becomes treasure to our hearts.  If our hearts are not longing more and more for God's kingdom then I would be concerned about the condition of our hearts before God.

What makes us family?

Matthew 12:50 (NIV 1984)

Jesus say's for whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.

The test to see if you are indwelt by Christ-Do we desire to do God's will?  Is there a longing in our hearts and minds to completely submit to God's authority of our lives?  Because if we are indwelt with the Spirit of Christ-He is going to transform our desires and our obediance to bring glory to the Father.  It will be our greatest desire because that is Christ greatest desire and His Spirit in us compells us to glorify God.

Who He is, not what I have

Habakkuk 3:17-19 (NIV 1984)

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no foods, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my savior.  The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights.

Lord, no matter what I have or don't have-no matter what circumstance I am in you and You are GOOD!  You are my joy and strength and you are worthy of my praise!

My joy is in Who you are, not just what you do.

God Stirs the Hearts

Haggai 1:13-14 (NIV 1984)

I am with you declares the Lord.  So the Lord stirred up the Spirit of Zerubbabel........and the Spirit of the whole remnant of the people.  They came and began to work on the house of the Lord Almighty, thier God.

When God stirs in the hearts of His people to do the work then the people will be willing and submissive to the work that is to be done.  God stir in our hearts a work that will glorify you! And never let us forget you are with us.

Ties of Love

Hosea 11:4 (NIV 1984)

I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love; I lifted the yoke from their neck and bent down to feed them.

kindness, love, lifted burden, bent down, supply need

God shows His love through us as we show kindness, love and ease someone's burden, bend low and meet the needs of people through compassion.

God has shown us His great love through these things. Jesus bent low to supply our need of forgiveness and lifted our burden of sin and guilt and has filled our lives with His love and kindness.

Jeremiah Prayed

Jeremiah 32:17 (NIV 1984)

Ah Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm.  Nothing is too hard for you.

Jeremiah 32:27 (NIV 1984)

"I am the Lord, the God of all mankind, is anything too hard for me?"

Jesus teach me to pray in our Father's will with faith.  Not that my will be done-but to pray trusting in His plan and will.  Hold me close to you so that I find my confidence and security in you and nothing else.  Use my life for your glory and Name.
